Equipment Support, Isolation & Vibration Control

Sorbothane® is a proprietary, visco-elastic polymer. Visco-elastic means that a material exhibits properties of both liquids (viscous solutions) and solids (elastic materials). Sorbothane is a thermoset, polyether-based, polyurethane material. Sorbothane combines shock absorption, good memory, vibration isolation and vibration damping characteristics. In addition, Sorbothane is a very effective acoustic damper and absorber. While many materials exhibit one of these characteristics, Sorbothane combines all of them in a stable material with a long fatigue life.  Courtesy of www.sorbothane.com/material-properties.php

How will it help me?  Well, you need to stop vibration.  A spring is not OK as what you put into it, comes straight back out, and then it starts to go up and down as the energy is constantly swapped over, until the energy slowly decays.  Cars use  shock absorbers, and they have springs and dampers, the damper absorbs the energy and stops this oscillation, what happens is that the energy is transferred into heat and the oil in the shock absorbers gets hot on bumpy roads.

Suspending things on rubber O rings is very similar to suspending things on springs, bounce, bounce and more bounce.  Sorbothane turns vibration into heat very quickly and the heat slowly dissipates into the room, the equipment supported will not oscillate.  Sorbothane is a bit of a miracle compound and it is recommended by the UK National Health Service as a buffer in shoes for people with health problems.  Exactly the same, they absorb the stress and strain and turn it into heat. Sorbothane absorbs up to 94.7% of impact shock and that’s a fact.  All our products are custom made for us using pure Sorbothane.

Isopods®  You may have seen products like the Vibrapods® and  Foculpods®, they are all made with some Sorbothane and come in expensive packaging.  Our Isopods are pure Sorbothane and come in a simple plastic bag!  They are half spheres and that gives more material than some of the others, this spaces your equipment further away from its support giving better ventilation and greater vibration isolation.

•  8 off 9mm

these are tiny, use them to break up resonances and damp vibration  £6.00

•  4 off 19mm

for small items such as phonostages  £6.50

•  4 off 30mm

for CD players  £9.95

•  4 off 50mm

for amplifiers and turntables £19.50

•  4 off 46mm diameter x 45mm high

with a rubber section so that it doesn't stick to your furniture! These are for big turntables.  They will fit straight into the SL-1200 and sound better than anything we have ever heard!  £95.00

Turntable and equipment support  You can pay £199 for 4 small pads of Sorbothane and a bit of MDF wood.  Ours is made from very acoustically pure Indian granite and is very black.  We designed this following the design constraints of high power microscopes where vibration is extremely important. The Sorbothane buffers are truly huge and you would not believe what they cost us!

•  480 x 400mm big enough for your cherished CD player  £299.00
•  590 x 430mm  big enough for any turntable!  £399.00
